Here's a breakdown of what the quintessential preppy girl would wear:


For the top a preppy girl is going to wear a polo on nice warm days or a crisp button down long sleeve shirt and wear a sweater over top of it on chillier days. Sometimes you may find a preppy girl with a button down long sleeve shirt and over top she'll have on a stylish t-shirt. Common brands are going to be American Eagle, Hollister, and Abercrombie, but if you REALLY want to score big on the prep scale, try Lacoste or Polo. Some of the tops should be pink, since this is a classic color for preppy girls.

For bottoms preppy girls tend to wear denim mini skirts or jeans. Some people like jeans with the holes in them, but being preppy is being clean cut and holes doesn't equal clean cut.

For shoes the two MUST HAVE items are Rainbow flip flops (must have at least a black, tan, and dark brown pair so nothing will clash) and Sperry Top-Siders (you know, the "boat shoes")

For accessories a preppy girl will have a purse from Coach, Louis Vuitton, Dooney and Bourke, Chanel, etc. At my college a lot of the girls prefer Vera Bradley bags also. Also some preppy girls wear headbands that co-ordinate with their outfits. Also an awesome pair of sunglasses are necessary.

when I think preppy, which is how I have dressed since the 1980s when it was popular the first time around I wore the following:

chino pants - khaki, navy, white
oxford shirts - blue/white stripe, yellow, pink
polo shirts - blue, yellow, white, navy, pink
denim skirt - sometimes
plaid - usually navy/black called dress stewart
shoes, typically canvas tennis shoes, oxfords, penny loafers.

denim is actually not a good option for a preppy in the truest sense of the word is from traditional prepartory schools in new england. And normally they did not allow denim. It was the school uniform. Preppy people do not wear torn or ripped anything. It is all about being polished and pulled to gether yet casual. Think about what you would wear to a private country club or out yachting. Very Very Conservative. Not revealing.

popular stores/brands are brooks brothers, polo/ralph lauren, j. crew.

Well, basically preppy girls like me wear collared shirts ,pearls, anything from abercrombie, hollister, or american eagle, have designer bags (examples are chanel, coach, louie vuitton, etc.) have perfect, frizz free hair, aren't sporty, luv short skirts, like mostly solid colors, get their nails done a lot, wear makeup, wear rainbows, designer shoes, or sparees

im not preppy personality wise. im a cheerleader and soccer player. but i def. dress preppy. im not rich. but i have things from hollister, american eagle, sperries(boat shoes, i dont really like the look, they are just really comfortable) ribbons in hair. thats about all i can think of.

okay. my friends call me preppy so ill just describe how i look and what i wear.

they layer a lot of tank tops with a cute shirt over.
