Actually I do believe so. Jimi was and still great in my eyes.
He even said so himself he didn't think that he didn't think was the greatest and not to compare him to no any one else. I don't think comparing someone else to another is good because every is different an they have there own vibe and groove,ya dig? I believe there are people out there with great talent and we won't hear of them because some aren't interested in being famous, others don't have the right promoters, and or some don't have the "look" that todays music business is based on. I mean look at B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan and many others they are ust as great and all on the same level in my eyes but I will never compare them. It's not fair and I think it is a big problemn to do so.

This isn't exactly a question, is it?

If you're talking in terms of guitar skill, it's difficult to gauge that, since half the artists out there are heavily influenced by Hendrix in some way or another anyway. In terms of sheer skill, there are tons of artists in the metal genre who are likely miles ahead of Hendrix in technique - Kirk Hammet of Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Herman Li from Dragonforce, Eddie Van Halen, Frank Zappa.

You cannot, however, compare any one person to another in terms of "skill", because skill is such a multi-layered aspect - entities such as emotion, passion, fitness, technique, and many others come into play in music. In this manner, no two artists are superior to one another, because superiority is a matter of taste and priority.

But if you want my honest opinion, I would say the early blues artists were the greatest guitarists in terms of innovation (all they had to work on was jazz and blues, right?). Muddy Waters, Bill Haley, Bo Diddley, Elvis Presley...the list goes on and on to the point where I just don't give a damn.

And any guitarist in the jazz area is likely more skilled than those associated in such genres as Hendrix was.

AND all the fretless bassists out there. Just try and play one of those things. Those guys are the real McCoy of guitar skill (and yes, bass IS a guitar).

And if you're talking about good in terms of morality, I would probably Nelson Mandela or something like that. :)

I agree with you, I highly doubt it. Espescially since most of the "music" today relies on a lot of technology to cover up where musical artists lack talent. Jimi Hendrix couldn't have used technology to try to sound better even if he wanted to. His music was pure 100% talent, not technology.

Edit, there are some BANDS that I like better than Jimi Hendrix, but when it comes to solo artists like the question asked, Hendrix is my favorite.

Yes, Little Richard said if he and Jimi Hendrix had a son, ...it would be Prince. Have you seen a live Prince show? He's devastating on the guitar!

If you want to hear a real guitarist, listen to Li Jie. But then I suppose you only want to listen to that pentatonic crap that your man played.
