Help! My Obgyn called and said during a pap she found atypical cells...what does this mean? All she would say is that i need another pap in 6 months! Please help!

There are a couple things that can cause an abnormal pap smear - sometimes it's nothing. HPV (human papillomavirus) can cause an abnormal pap smear though.

They just want you to come back in six months to see if anything has changed.

I was diagnosed with HPV and cervical cancer when I was 17 years old. I've been going to my OBGYN every 4 months for the last 6 years! They just don't want anything changing for the worse so they like to keep an eye on it.

Don't worry. It's probably nothing. Especially if she is not doing anything more NOW. It just needs to be watched to see if any further change is noted.

I had a similar thing happen about 10 years ago. I thought to myself "I could have cancer!" and they did a biopsy and looked at my cervix with some magnification-thingy. And the biopsy came back fine and I have been yearly ever since.
