Menses is the first time a woman menstruates, so your body is adjusting to the change. The dark brown spots are probably diarrhea - embarassing, but normal. This will probably happen again for the first several months.
Continue wearing a pad or a panty liner to protect your garments.

you need to go to a gynecologist what you have is mitrorhagia which is inter menstrual bleeding,don't worry the doctor will ask you to make a hormonal profile and before the vaginal examination we most be sure that you are not pregnant and this menses wasn't abortion,hope your health gets better soon.

Brown spots are also unneeded blood spots, they have just been sitting around a little longer before exiting.
