I had Cobalt treatments in the 40's in Canada, at Toronto Children's Hospital. Had a tumor on my face.
I was told years later that is was called "White Snow", it eats and burns the tumor. Had treatments for over a year.

As barbaric as it sounds, the tumor is gone, I have one hell of a scar, Doctors are amazed, they said this was the old form of radiation in its rawest form. Evidently the medical profession has come a long way since then.

Not sure if this is of any use to you. But that is what I know about Cobalt. If in fact we are even speaking about the same thing.
Later:
The young person below my answer is probably correct (Co60) old cancer treatment.
see even I learned something. Thank you.
I am giving my vote to the other answerer he was correct. Thanks

When all else fails, go to Wikipedia.
Cobalt symbol is Co, which is actually straightforward. Cobalt is a metal, and is used in specialized steels. I believe it is also magnetic.
Co60, which was an undesirable by-product of nuclear bombs, is used in cancer treatment.
