This is the most ridiculous thing to watch in the whole world. Who cares whether common people can pimp themselves to "qualified" "judges"? Don't we have something better to do with our lives (read a book, work on courses or hobbies, etc.) than give our valuable time away to a meaningless mind-eating waste? Simon and Sanjaya should NEVER have become household names.

Everybody here is defending the program and missing the point. ALL reality shows eat the mind. You become sheep and just allow people to tell you what's OK. Please, people Get real. I don't watch the show. I write songs, sing karaoke and host it, win karaoke contests, and it's all in fun. No national ridicule.
Ask yourself what you'd be doing if American Idol didn't exist. I don't have that problem. I don't watch it. Yahoo! reports everything that happens so I can't even avoid the results.

To each his own, thats what makes us all unique. Not everyone shares your opinion. We can all read books or do our hobbies, doesnt mean we cant watch some TV too. Its called entertainment. I like American Idol. Its nice to know that a simple hometown person, (someone like me) has a chance at doing what they like to do in this big old world. Alot of the contestants on Idol have given up alot to take a chance at there dreams. Shows dreams can come true if you set your mind to it. Good luck to each and everyone! ( dont you have something better to do then to sit at your computer and put down people who are doing what they love. Or is this what you call YOUR HOBBY?)

I partially agree...Sanjaya should have never made it to the point where America started to vote. The lackluster top whatever is the fault of the people who produce the show, as well as the three judges.

Lol. It is a good way to spend time, and yes, I do care. The judges are only there for comments, if you've noticed. They don't decide the outcome. So they are "qualified" for entertainment, course they are.
Find something better to do with your life then

It is people like you that ruin it for those of us that enjoy that show. Some of these people really do have talent.
