It's all pixy dust, make-believe. And, besides, isn't the "successful" paradigm all about making a buck? The viewer with a wallet gets whatever the viewer wants to see badly enough to open his wallet for.

First off all, the cannibalism is not portrayed in a positive light.
Secondly, boozing and debauchery are one thing, but snorting the cremated remains of your father is quite another.
Thirdly, Keith Richards didn't really do that. It's ludicrous. He even admitted that it was a joke, but what he didn't realize is that people have a perception of him as a crazy drug user who is fully capable of actually snorting his father's ashes. It's weird, but it's not so weird that it's unbelievable that Keith Richards would do it.
I don't think Disney should hype up the Keith Richards cameo, but only because it's just that, a cameo. He's not going to be like Sean Connery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It's a cameo, and if I were Disney, I would have tried to keep a lid on the whole thing until the movie came out. But it's too late for that now.

Disney have pretty much always 'kept it real', as much as any studio can. The pirates are portrayed as drunken bafoons because, in history, that's exactly what Pirates were. In contrast, the big bad wolf in Little Red Riding Hood wanted to eat her. In real life, a big bad wolf would INDEED eat a little girl. Disney has always portrayed it's characters to a sterotypical fault. And Keith Richards DID NOT snort his dad. It was a joke he made that the tabloids tried to say was true. Just check today's news for his official statement. As for his drug use, what does it have anything to do with Keith playing the character of a drunken baffoon? It would be hypocritical of Disney NOT to use Keith Richards. One example, Johnny Depp's know drug usuage in the early 90s. Plus, he used to own 'The Viper Room' which was a drug den for the rich & famous until the death of River Phoenix at its doorstep. So by your thinking Johnny Depp should never have been given the chance to act again. Thank goodness he did!

Yes they can. People go to the movies to be entertained, not to learn a moral lesson. Keith Richards is an idiot and is trying to do some damage control by saying he was "joking". I wouldn't want to be associated with him either!

Does seem a little hypocritical. Then again their pirates are fictional in nature, and do fictional things....Keith is a real person that does real things he shouldn't
