"Colour" in English, as spoken by the English and most of the English-speaking world (Canada, New Zealand, UK, Australia, etc. etc.)
"Color" to US Americans. You guys are special. :)
So, how about flavour/flavor, favour/favor, savour/savor, honour/honor... :)

The spelling c-o-l-o-u-r reflects a French influence. The original Latin word and spelling was "color" (coloris in the genetive).
I don't know whether the c-o-l-o-u-r spelling was always used in England. However, in American English, there has been a tendency to simplify spelling and even grammar for a long time. At least, since the time of Massachusetts Puritan writer, Cotton Mather (1668 - 1728). In the 18th century, "liquor" was sometimes spelled "likker" by the American colonists.

English/ Canadian people spell it as colour. Americans spell it as color. Either way, it means the same thing.

Spelling changes over time. British spellings can be very archaic e.g. Colour vs. color or Tyre vs. Tire and my favorite: Gaol vs. Jail
But if you really want to see the evolution of English spelling and how it has changed go read some Chaucer!

"COLOUR" is the way that the word in question is officially spelled in English in every country of the world except America.
It is only spelled COLOR in AMERICA.

Different countries spell some words with "u". (UK)
I read a lot in a King James Version Bible and it just doesn't look right to spell Saviour without a "u" now. :)
Try reading Ye Olde Kings English some time. Much more different than just taking away a few u's!

colour is the british spelling. color is the american spelling. just like honor is the american spelling to honour which is british.

I was taught to spell it "Colour"..and I still do at times, altho' I try to remember to use the more modern spelling but, my fingers as I'm typing don't always remember...
