A Bonsai needs full outside light. The cactus can be dangerous and needs sunlight.

There is an assortment of plants called succulents, that are unusual to look at and would make a great terrarium. Look at them before you buy.

depends on how good u are at caring for plants ! if u are like me, and keep forgetting to water the flipping things, then buy a cactus.... if u are willing to spend a bit more time and care on a plant, get the bonsai tree.... i love the look of bonsai trees, but someone once told me that they can be a bit high maintenance !

I prefer bonsai because that's what I grow. Be careful, someone told you to get a Japanese maple, but they won't grow in your bedroom or anywhere INSIDE. They are outdoor trees. You must learn the difference between inside and outside plants. You might want to read the Bonsai Care page of my website:
http://www.american-bonsai.com to get an idea of the difference.

Samm is right, Bonsai need full sinlight.
Bonsai Trees look great but they are a real tree and need to be outside. Bonsai do not make a good indoor plant.

From a Karma point of view definately the Bonsai. Trees are incredible and impart a lot of strength and energy, cactus are dry and jagged in a rough kind of a way.
