It is true that a GED is not worth any more than a high school diploma when it comes to finding employment. If you do nothing more with your education, then a GED may not be worth the trouble.

BUT if you have nothing right now, at least a GED can let you go to community college and get a nursing certificate or degree. Nurses are in high demand and make a lot of money, so I wouldn't worry about that!

A GED is better than nothing! And its a start. Go and get your GED as soon as possible. Then, you can focus on college. Don't listen to all those negative answers- it is much better to have some education, then nothing. And with a GED, you will be able to go on to higher learning! Keep working at it. It will not be given to you. If you want to make a certain amount of money and have nice things, etc... then you have to WORK very hard. The more education you have, the more options you have! I have a masters degree in education, but stay home with our children now full time. If something were to happen to my husband and I had to support our 4 children, I know that I could do it because I have my education already! Education is sort of like a bank account. You may not need it right away, but its good to have it stored up there in your brain for the future! Good luck to you!

A high school iploma is always better than a GED. But if you try to get a job, while going to college, with a GED, you probably won't get a much as you would with a high school diploma. I've know people to get their GED , and they end up working in reatil or fast food, making little more than minimum wage.

Once you have a college degree, the GED shouldn't trip you up too much. If you can get a diploma, I'd highly recommend it, though. Try the website below to get some answers.

you have to be at least 16 and have a 2.0 GPA or lower to get your GED.
it is so much better to get your highschool diploma it is only 4yrs left(if your a freshman) some jobs will accept a GED but a lot of them take it as nothing. personally i think it is a waste to get it. your highschool career is not that long.

You are screwed. I am not saying this meanly, but in 10 years when you have 2 kids and are divorced, and are in debt up to your a** remember this.

Why get a GED. My wife and I have 5 college degrees between us and make over 200K per year. Why would you not like to do the same?
