I punched a hole in my hallway door a few months back (long story). How can I fix it? My lease is up and I want to get my full deposit back. HELP!

If you want your full deposit back..I would suggest replacing the door with the same kind of door you damaged...if these doors are painted you might be able to get away with repairing the hole... by filling this hole in with wood putty or other fillers.. than sanding it down and painting it ..but if the door is wood veneer and not painted.....than the landlord is going to notice the change..and might not like it and refuse to give your full deposit back..........fortunately, it was only a hallway door..so, they are relatively inexpensive to replace..if had been a front door..that would have been costly.........

I hope you get your deposit back....

I've never heard of a drywall door. I'm sure it's a hollow wood door. You can repair it the same as drywall and it's a lot easier than hanging a new door. Just bye a drywall patch that is relative to the size of your fist and some joint compound. Put the patch on it and lightly spackle it 2-3 times and sand smooth. Paint the entire side of the door and no one should really know the difference especially on a rental property.

Not much you can do but replace the door. Some are under $100 at local home improvement shops.

I have the same problem. I cut corrugated carton to place over the holes (from the inside of the hollow door) and then taped it up with strong tape...looks awful, but works for the moment.

There is some fake-wood putty you could use over top of my temporary fix, but I'm not doing it.

I agree with Gibson_slayer - if its painted, use some automobile bondo, itll take some time - a day or so, but it would be a lil cheeper then getting a new door. The other options - adhere a piece of 'Luan' wood to it - comes in 4x8 sheets - really thin wood, use a wood glue and some small nails in the corners to hold it while glue drys ( door would need to be taken off and set level) or the fastest way- a whole new door.

Buy yourself a hole repair kit, consists of a metal screen with self adhering fiberglass sheetrock tape, cost about $5 at any paint/hardware store. They come in a couple size's and then stick it over the hole and 3 light coats of joint compound lightly sanding in between coats, spot prime and paint and I'm assuming it's a painted door, easy fix Good luck Les the painter

if it is a hallow core door you are s.o.l bout the only thing you can do is measure it go to lowes or home depot match it and buy and new one and paint it yourself this will be cheaper than what they keep out of your deposit you might be able to swap it with another door in the apartment that opens in to a room and leave the door open for the walk through and hope they dont close and look behind the door

Is it one of those cheap hollow doors? They sell them at Home Depot or some hardware stores relatively cheap. I used to buy them and make desks out of them. Then just switch your lock/knob.
Or you can stuff the hole with newspaper and fill the top with joint compound if it is a painted door. Fill it in real good (takes a couple layers), sand it smooth and paint it to match.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT.
Find a tack board with a wooden frame. Use liquid nails to hold it in place over the hole. Make a few tack holes so it looks like it's used a little.

Try looking for a door like the one you have, or as close as possible, and install it. If the land lord discovers the change,
tell him/ her what happened. They will respect you for you're honesty and should give you're deposit back.
