Ronald Reagan, since he inhered an screwed up country (gas lines, inflation, no self respect, "paper tigers" we were called after Nam, etc) and turn it around, Clinton was ok too, but came in at a time the US was already getting better and the Cold War has just ended...so Reagan got my vote.

And for those that say Clinton was better less not forget that the prosperity and the vast military might of the 90's WAS created in the 80's...by Reagan!

So it was easy been a president in the 90's, ANY one could have been great....since Reagan before had done the hard work of turning the country around from the crap of the late 70's and finishing the Cold War!

so in modern times ? Reagan no questions about it!

well, here goes my best answer percentage---down a notch. Still

Nixon was one of the brightest and most competent men to ever hold the office---what drove him out was, quite simply, he had some bad people around him, and when they crossed a line, during a political campaign, Nixon told the people aroung him, in effect---"Make this go away." A completely understandable reaction...there is Watergate, in a nutshell

Nixon got us out of Vietnam---slowly...he opened relations with China---in an old textbook about the various Presidents, there was a paragraph about his presidency titled, "Ending the Cold War."

He has been called "the last liberal president." By people who use that "L" word as a weapon.

he was not good on TV. But he was a thinking man, a feeling man, and he may go down in history as a bad president, but he was the right guy for the job when he was there.

Carter and Ford---America was blessed to have both of them, and Reagan and Bush Sr and Clinton all did good things. The amazing thing is how darned good our presidents have been in the past 30-35 years, and we haven't had a spectacularly bad one...

well, until now...and he's not EVIL, he's just spectacularly wrong for the job he's in.

For those saying Reagan, let's not forget this upturn in prosperity came with a price, that being a huge jump in the national deficit. We all could live the good life if we spent a few thousand every day without any thought about how we were going to pay it back.

After the economy faltered somewhat under Bush, Clinton was able to regain the prosperity of the Reagan years. Even more significantly, he managed to lower the national deficit at the same time. It's unfortunate he is going to be remembered more for his "extracurricular activities".

Note to Ronald T: The war ended 142 years ago. You lost. Accept that.

President William Jefferson Clinton.

FDR is the greatest president we ever had. He brought us out of a horrible depression and led us into prosperity. He was a great leader during WWII. FDR's legacy lives on in the parks, roads, dams, as well as the social programs built during his presidency.

Reagan was a senile third rate actor and a corporate shill whose stated goal was to destroy FDR's programs. Reagan's claim to fame was invading Grenada to take attention off the murder of over 200 marines in Beirut and making appointments/decisions based on his astrologer's advice. Reagan was part of the Iran Contra and October Surprise, both criminal activities. If that is the best to you, I question your intelligence but I question most who honor crooks like Reagan, Bush and Nixon.

Reagan or Clinton

Both inherited crappy economies and turned them around.

Regean used diplomcacy and pressure to expedite the fall of the USSR. (they were already on their way but Ronnie spend them into the ground). ronnie "morning in america" raised our national pride again.

Clinton did reduce fed gov + ended up with at least 1 year of surplus. In spite of his personal issue, did a decent job and campaigned on aspirational things.
