Free in what way? Over the years I've seen many freedoms taken away in the U.S.A. Are people referring to specific freedoms that they aren't expressing?

Many European countries have freedoms that the U.S.A. can only dream about.

Excellent point-people just sing and praise "the land of the free" enterprise perhaps! Honestly, I need to leave this country. We supress everything that does not conform to the government or media standards. Europe holds many advantages over us, and I salute you for that! ~N

The freedoms we have may be or may have been frowned upon by other countries long ago. Maybe it is equivalent now to other countries in terms of freedoms, but in times past it was a really big deal to have the freedoms as listed in the Constitution back in those days especially...

Not quite as the United States has. I am a European immigrant. I used to live in Germany. So we are a democratic system, whatsoever it still feels like you have to respond to everything arround you. Or you can't feel the freedom like you can feel it in the USA.
Its hard to describe. I feel I can do whatever I want to do without breaking the law. Without having the fear that the government is looking after me what I am doing. That was like that in Germany. You must confirm and apply to whatever the society has pescribed for you. I feel that I have Liberty here, I never felt patriatic about my country, cause of what happen in WWII and the Holocaust.
Here I feel a sense of duty, a sense of freedom , and proudly do I fly the American flag in front of my home here.
I love living in the United States, where people do not judge you. Where people allow you to be who you are. Where people accept you as who you are . Oppression in any society is a terrible ordeal. Even so Germany has Democracy s still not the same. In times many of us feel still how it was under Hitler's regime or under Erich Honecker's DDR (East German Republic) system. It was an area that no one can easily forget. Nor can you shake it off.
Living in the US gives you privledges, rights, freedom to choose whatever you want to do. No one dictates whether you piss in the toilette this way or that way. Excuse me for that example. I love the USA and I love my country. God bless all of you.
