Democrats saw a clear way to whip up hysteria in americans to regain power and took it. The obvious way for them was to play up the war as unjustified and villify the president when in reality all this was about was reinstalling failed tax and spend economics. Conservatives saw through this lunacy and continued to support are troops with the ultimate result being the return to normalcy in baghdad being broadcast on abc today.
when liberals realize the jig is up and get out of the way, the electorate should hopefully see them for what they are. the simple explanation is the pelosi reid regime are opportunists who saw and opportunity and grabbed it,using the war as a mask.

Great question. First part is easy the war isn't going well at all. Second part would be simple lack of WMD which made credibility for the war weak. But that seems to have disappeared in the political fighting going on. But my feeling on it is that with the war going bad it was easy for the democrats to split with the war last year as a good campaign issue to regain power and it worked.

There were some divisions before.
Republicans once claimed to be fiscally responsible - before George started throwing money away on everything & being too chicken to tax us to pay for it.
Our grandchildren will have to do that.
