I would suggest buying clothes for the baby as s/he gets older. Everyone will buy you a hundred cute newborn gifts, very rarely will someone buy you clothes for a 6-9 month old or older! So, what I did, once we found out we were having a boy, I went shopping in the clearance racks and bought anything I thought was cute for the next year. Babies don't really have a fashion sense, so they don't know they are wearing last season's cute. :) You could buy white onesies and gender neutral items, like t-shirts, socks, etc.
If you're talking big items, well, I'd sit down and think about what you'll really use. With my first son, everyone said we'd never use a changing table, but we used it till he potty trained! Everyone said we'd need the crib, but it was just a giant toybox for us, since we ended up cosleeping.
My necessities list: carseat, stroller, highchair, booster seat, convertible carseat for older babies, a quality sling or wrap, a baby bathtub, a pack-n-play (we found this more useful and portable than a regular bassinet) and lots and lots of storage. My favorite books were the Dr. Sears Baby Book and Pregnancy Book. I also LOVE the books "Love You Forever" and "God Gave Us You", and read them to the babies frequently, and still do. If you want some serious advice, research all the decisions you're going to have to make-- vaccines, circumcision, breastfeeding, when you'll start solids, the kind of diapers you'll use, the kind of discipline you want to use-- and do so with an open mind. I wish I had known more about circing and vaccinating when I was pregnant, I would have made different decisions. Also, research your birth and pregnancy options and learn about the type of birth you want to have, and if you want a doula, a lactation consultant, etc.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and best wishes. Have fun shopping and learning!

Ok first...don't ever say "preggers" again...lol..
And second...You'll need onesies, sleeper body suits, tiny socks, tiny beanies and lots of blankets to swaddle in...
Other than that...you'll want to make sure that whatever clothing you buy...you've calculated out how old the child will be at what seasons...so that you don't go buying a snow suit for a newborn if your child will actually be 2 months old by then.
I ended up with tons of super cute creepers and shorts and little short sleeve outfits that my son never got to wear because people just bought me cute stuff for 0-3 or 3-6 apparently not taking into consideration that when my son was three months old...it was the middle of january...and there was no way I was gonna dress him in summer clothes...
So ...just think before you spend :) And try not to go too crazy...you'll get lots of stuff from friends and family.
Oh ya...and Congratulations!!!

Other than materity clothes for you as you get bigger, it's alittle bit early to start buying baby clothes and such. Its usually better to wait till you're about 20 weeks (5 months) along before you start buying stuff. The reason for this is two fold: First, by that point you've moved beyond your first trimester and the chances for miscarriage are greatly reduced. Second, at 20 weeks you can find out the sex of the baby if that's your choice as parents, which will make it easier to shop for the right stuff.

Congratulations!! I would get some good pregnancy workout videos! And remember just because your pregnant you can't eat what you want you will regret it later. Also get some good books about expecting. One book I read on my first pregnancy was "What To Expect When You're Expecting" that book was great you can pick it up at walmart. Try looking for a few tops. I would'nt go for the bottoms yet unless you want get new ones every couple months(unless you plan to have more and keep maternity clothes for future pregnancies. You will be happy you did) I know pregnant women can be clumsy so remember get some good stain remover for cute shirts. I know its so hard at first because you are so excited but stay comfortable excercise is really important for now and delivery and think about what you plan to do. Breastfeeding or bottle that way you can plan ahead and learn what to expect. Also relax stay busy and get rest when needed listen to your body and take care of yourself. Again Congratulations!!

Maternity clothes. You are way too far ahead of yourself to begin buying things for the baby, and besides, you want to give your friends and relations a chance to buy things for the baby. But too often Mom's prenatal needs are not as gifted as the baby's.

the 1st appointment may be the main costly. generally you will get a gaggle of blood finding out executed, and a pap smear. you may call the surgeon you're desirous to circulate to and ask what they do with billing. some docs will positioned a notice on the account to bill while the coverage kicks in. in the event that they won't paintings with you, you may desire to easily wait till january first. it isn't very some distance away, and the surgeon could have you ever wait till then besides. making use of for medicaid will probable take longer.

I agree with waiting to buy the big things..even the little things..
If you are anything like me, the excitment makes you want to buy everything.
You could buy "what to expect books"
And treat yourself really nice, and try to make a ton of special moments with the husband.. once baby is here those things get harder. Good luck!

Staples would be..
Nursing bras and nursing pads, cuz your breasts may leak milk.
Crib, Stroller and car seat, highchair, baby supplies such as diapers, rash cream, a thermometer, infant tylenol, bottles if you plan not to breast feed.
Beware a lot of stuff you may buy like diaper genies and wipe warmers end up not being so useful, you may just return them for things you find you'll need.
Congrats!!!!!

It is a bit too early to start purchasing tidbits as yet give that embie time to settle in a little bit more.
As there is always the slight possibility for a miscarriage (God Forbid).
