what harm can come from apologizing? NONE! What harm can come from refusing to apologize?...ALSO, WHY DOES EVERY REPUBLICAN ALWAYS SAY "WELL, THEY DONT HAVE TO SO WHY DO I?" And as well since when did the continent of Africa become part of the usa? What bearing does the continent of Africa have on a state of the u.s.a. participating in illegal activity, and making restitution by saying two simple words?

The problem is that the time spent debating whether or not to apolgize and then voting could be spent debating and passing legislature that would actually improve people lives.
Can anyone demonstrate that anyone alive today has been harmed by slavery - the exception being those people who actually are slaves around the world.
There are a couple of Texas legislators trying to get a grassroots effort to get Texas to apologize. Both of them are black. Hmmm. Do these legilsators feel the need to have Texas apologize to them for slavery? They are evidence that blacks do not need an apology or affirmative action to succeed.

that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee at starbucks, My people, haven't heard squat! It was our land,we refused to be slaves, and here's what I don't understand, when Black people became free why was one of the first thing they did was go and fight us American Indian's for the former master? So while apologies are floating around I think Black people also owe my people an apology for the Buffalo Soldiers

I have never enslaved anyone, why should I apologize? The problem with apologizing is that it first starts with an apology then that leads to an admittance of guilt with in turns leads to reparations.

Should all the Jews apologize for killing Jesus? Should Africans apologize to African-Americans for selling their ancestors to the Europeans? Should Norway and Iceland apologize to Western Europe for enslaving their people during the Viking era?
I don't think that I am responsible for the actions of my ancestors - I do not carry the guilt of whatever they may or may not have done.

Does it make you feel better considering how you were never effected by slavery and have never met one who was? How about if we say one big "WE'RE SORRY!!!" and get over it so that maybe we could deal with more important issues that face the world and Blacks in particular?

The sordid past of this nation should be correctly taught in school, from K - post-grad, as a start. That begins the process for this country to truly move forward, with history showing the tragic blood, tears and sweat of the slaves who placed the economic fortunes of white America on their shoulders.

Is so asinine to demand an apology or apologize for something people did over 200 years ago. Are you going to demand apology from the African tribesmen who actually captured others and sell them to the white slavers?
