Recently i have received acceptence letters from three of my top choice colleges.1.St.Johns University in NewYork, offering me a 10000 a year,40000 overall scholarship2.Morehouse in Atlanta offering me a full tuition scholarship and 3.Iowa State University offering me an overall scholarship of 28000.However I spoke with a navy recruit today and he was telling me about this navy program where the first year I would be doing navy training and taking some college classes and also so some nuclear propulsion classes on board the navy ship. Then the second, third, and forth year, not including graduate school I could go to any college of my chocie, all paid for fully no charge. But when I get out of college for how many ever years I spent there, including graduate years,I have to serve that many years in the navy. And plus I get a salary monthly from the time that I start, starting at about 4200 and it grows from there until the end.And when it ends i can stay in the navy or opt out. What should i do?

Morehouse sounds like the best bet

there arent a lot of nuclear ships outside the navy :)

Make sure you understand the Navy commitment, recruiters are notorious liars in my opinion. What happens if your grades aren't good ? what happens if they need you in active duty status ?

The navy option MIGHT have you in the navy for 12 to 14 years including college.

How do the three offers compare in terms of tuition , living expenses and so forth. Morehouse is offering full tuition , but what about living expenses. ? Does St Johns cover tuition and some living costs ?

Go to school with one of your scholarships. Morehouse, St Johns and Iowa State are all good.

You should only take the Navy offer if you specifically want a career in the military, but not because of the scholarship. Besides, the Navy is willing to pay for your education at any school, but they cannot get you admitted to any school. maybe you'd end up at one of the three schools you mentioned anyways.

Ask the recruiter if there is any clause in the contract that allows them to just take you out of school and send you off to Iraq. I bet there is. I have had quite a few students pulled out of my classes over the years every time the Navy felt it needed them somewhere. You could wind up taking ten years to finish college.

If you want to serve your country, that's fine. And being in the service is a good career provided you have finished your degree and will be an officer. But be absolutely sure that there is NO WAY they can take you out of school. Read all the fine print.

ps I was talking to a woman about this question yesterday - her nephew signed up and was told he could finish college - the day he returned home from basic training and was packing to go to college he was called up and has now been on active duty three years and at least one more year to go. And even when he gets back from this tour they can call him up again for up to NINE YEARS!

Go to school right away with one of the scholorships. Either St. Johns or Morehouse. Leave the Navy behind you.

The Navy is going to try and sell you on joining in time of war, things might not pan out the way they are presenting. And that offer can change at ANY time. Please, don't join, it's tempting I know. But recruiters lie, and you will be sorry. Being on a ship with a bunch of F***ed in the head dudes is not where you want to spend YEARS of your young adult life.

Go to school. Have fun. Enjoy your scholorship. You'll find that most people in the armed forces are their because they have no other options in life. That is not your case, you have MUCH better options.

Want do you want to do? Are you interested in the Navy? If so, I would go there. If not, then I would go to Morehouse.
