If you are going to raise it, yes. Raise it in all the states.

Will 7.50 per hour help people be motivated? Yes, they will be motivated to find a better paying job.

Honestly, it's not a question of motivation.

The issue is this, families are trying to live off of minimum wage, something it was never intended for. Minimum wage is intended for part time and student workers who are using the job as supplemental income, not livelyhood. Unfortunately, so many are using minimum wage jobs as their ownly source of income. Because we realize this, it is our duty to try and provide a better life for those that are in this condition.

HOWEVER

We must also realize that by increasing minimum wage, there will be a huge impact. Places that hire minimum wage employees (grocery stores, mom and pop shops, stores in smaller towns, etc) will all be forced to pay more which will increase overhead costs. This of course means higher costs on everything including necessities such as bread and milk. Obviously this is going to hurt those that it's actually trying to help.

Toss into the mix that inflation, which has been a fairly steady 2.5-3.6% for the last several years would likely increase to 4.5-6% and we have a pretty scary situation.

There is no doubt in my mind that minimum wage needs to be increased, but the amount is the source of despair. How high can we increase it without adversely affecting those we are trying to help?

Answer that and you should be a finacial analyst of some sort.

What's sad is that politicians aren't using this for reasonable purposes, they're trying to pull the vote of lower income families. Sad, but it's the way things are I guess.

To answer your question directly, No. It will not help anyone to me motivated. If they are not motivated now they wont be then. Unfortunately those who make minimum wage do so because of a lack of education, skills, illegal aliens, or like me over 50 disabled and can't perform a higher paying job like I use to. There are jobs below minimum wage for a reason. Waiters and waitress' get paid a few dollars an hour but in good restaurants can pull in $30,000 or more a year, my daughter does.

No. the states that have a 7.50$ minimum wage is a cost of living minimum wage.

Look at what housing prices are in those areas compared to housing prices in areas where min wage is 5.00$

It will never be a motivator

When people make more money, they spend more money

I don't think it's necessary nation-wide. Minimum wage is not meant to support a family, just to provide extra income.

Remember, if you have a nationwide minimum wage, then that applies in New York City where the cost of living is very, very high and Scottsbluff, Nebraska where the cost of living is very, very low.

A $7.50/hour min wage isn't enough to live on in NYC, and it's a heckuva lot to live on in Scottsbluff!

It just isnt' right to make a nationwide-one-rate plan.
