Hi. Welcome to the Q and A part of the site. Here's a chance to get answers to your questions without actually having to ask them out loud. There's also a list of other resources at the end of the section. If you're still thirsting for knowledge, talk with a parent, teacher or other trusted adult.
* When will I get my first period?
* Good question. Most girls get their first period between the ages of 9 and 16. Most means the majority - not everyone will fall into this category. Anyway, it follows the development of breasts, hips, waist, pubic hair, and a growth spurt. Put those clues together and they usually add up to imminent period alert. In addition, a girl will often weigh at least 100 pounds before menstruation begins. Genetics also plays a role. If possible, find out when your mom got her first period to get an estimate of when yours may arrive.
* What will happen when I get my first period?
* Usually a first period is very light. It will probably be a few spots of bright red blood or a brown sticky stain that shows up on your underpants. If you are out in public and don't have a pad with you, don't panic. Remain calm. This is a time when true female bonding occurs. Hopefully, your mother or other adult relative will be close by and can supply you with a feminine product. If not, try Plan B. Ask a friend or other woman if she has a pad. It's a well-kept secret that every woman at some time in her life has had to ask another woman for a pad. Yes, it's embarrassing, but you can rely on other women to see you through this situation. And in all honesty, first periods were designed really well because it is usually so little that it won't seep through to your outer clothes.
* How long will my period last?
* Everyone is different. It can last between two and seven days. Most girls have it for about five days.
* What should I do when I get my first period?
* In addition to what's covered above, it's a good idea to have feminine products ready for that first period, and to know how to use them. (See the Kotex products section of our site for more information about these products.)

Romero, your sister became a woman which is something to rejoice, as for the huge amount of blood that you say she had, is questionable, for a moment you gave me the picture of Niagara falls. My advice is that you should let your mother (her mother) talk and console your sister, she knows best. Your sister got frightened and she is now more embarrassed than anything else.

You are a very special brother to want to make your sister feel better about the situation.
It's unfortunate that this happened to her. I'm sure she feels like she is the only one this ever happened to. But it isn't the first time and probably won't be the last. (I started mine monthly cycle one time during class too and was so embarrassed. But I got over it)
Just be considerate of your sister and kind to her.

Aww omg I feel so bad. Was she wearing a skirt or something? Or did it run through her pants? Just try and make her feel better by taking her shopping or getting her hair done…you know girly type of things try and make her feel like everything is fine. It will pass. Aww I feel so bad for her…you just need to tell her “Hun everything is all right” eventually it will pass and screw the jerks who laugh.
Hope dis helps = P

Just let her know it's natural and there is nothing to worry about. Yes she is scared and I'm sure everyone made fun of her but it will not be a big deal in a week as something else will happen to make them laugh next week

Did the other students see this? Well, unfortunately, it is part of life, but usually your first period you don't bleed THAT much. Maybe she should see a gynocologist to make sure nothing is wrong. How old is she? That's really unsual to bleed that much the first time one gets their period.

I know this from personal exp., k so really....
a Very Personal Private thing happened in Public,
u can be sensitive to her, her feelings,
try to get her to laugh (i.e. a comedy movie, comedy show, ru funny?)
don't make the issue bigger then it already is,
try to get her to see a lighter side to 'it'; like be proud you're a woman! ; @ least your not preg., it Really Does Happen to women............
in time it'll just fade away in memory.
You obviously care about your sister, Show Her u care.

awe poor thing.. maybe take her out to dinner, just the two of you, spend the day with her... first periods can be a weird time 4 girls.. its like they are still children, but at the same time this is part of becoming a woman... it can sort of mess with your head a little... when I got my first . my mom spent the day with me and we had mother/daughter day.. something that has stayed with me all this time
