The level of active chlorine is lowered by time (dissipation), by sunlight, and can be lowered by a high pH. If you are asking if you can lower the chlorine and stay safe - no. If you want to lower the chlorine reading, just wait, expose to the sun or raise the pH (in order of preference LOL)

There are three things you can do. The first is to drain some water off and add more fresh water this will balance the amount of chlorine in your hot tub. The second thing you can do is to switch to Bromine instead of chlorine. It works much better than chlorine in a hot tub and does not smell as bad. I would also add a ozinator. This is a device that pumps ozone into your hot tube. This allows you to use less Bromine in the water. The third thing you can do is to ajust the amount of Chlorine that is time released into your Hot tub. there is usually a adjustment on the dispenser located in the filter.

Chlorine dissipates in the air. Thats why you normally need to add it to a pool so often. I am not aware of anything else that would cut the level. If you have added chlorine to the tub, you may be able to add more water after draining some out to change the volume of chlorine to water.

More water would dilute the level. Take some of the water out and add fresh water. Make sure it is within normal levels when you test. The chlorine level is at that level for a reason.....to disinfect the water.

Check out a device called an "ozone generator", which when installed on a hot tub can reduce chemical usage greatly. Depending on the amount of usage, it can actually replace the chemical usage. With heavy use of the tub it may not be sufficient to carry the sanitation load by itself.

Well, you can control how much you add, so I guess you can lower it, but you run the risk of bacteria growth and algae growth.
There are alternatives to chlorine to treat your hot tub, including such things as ozone treatment. See your local spa dealer for details of converting your hot tub.

You can buy chorine remover drops at a fish store. Or else, drain out half the water and add clean tap water.
