Go to control panel and add new hardware, then when it askes insert disk and that should take it from there. Or reboot and the computer should find it that way. hope this helps.

Try two things:

First, check the port with the device driver:
To open Device Manager, click Start,
point to Settings,
and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
On the Hardware tab,
click Device Manager.
Right-cl the item to be checked and select Properties.

You should be told whether or not the item is working properly. You can also update the driver from here.

Theoretically, we were supposed to be able to plug and unplug devices in USB ports. It doesn't seem to work that way. I recently:

-- Removed a flashdrive before turning computer off.
-- Next day, before turning computer on, inserted a different flashdrive.
-- Would not load.
-- Removed the new flashdrive and reinserted that which was previously loaded.
-- Right-clicked on “Safely Remove Hardware” button in the system tray on the bottom right
-- selected that flashdrive to “stop” then "safely remove."
Reinserted the new flashdrive. It loaded.
