No, it wouldn't. By the time Africa was named, there were people on other continents.
Nobody knows exactly what color the first people - Adam and Eve - were. There are different colors today (colors, NOT races; there's only one race - the human race) because God likes variety. It started way back in the first days of the world. Some people go for the tower of Babel explanation - where God divided the people up and they started speaking different languages and stuff. Who knows, it may be both reasons.
Anyway, most (if not all) people think of African Americans as blacks (and of blacks as African Americans). I don't know why. There have been some times when an African American couple had a white child, and when a white couple had a darker child. African American refers to a black person living in America (not all over the world; AMERICA).

I consider the term african-american to be a pathetic term. In the sense that you are saying, all americans are indeed african-american. However, popular usage of the term is different. To me, your usage is no more meaningless than popular usage, so I am willing to agree with you.
