It is state-sponsored discrimination, pure and simple.
It really all boils down to the Constitution, which states that ALL are created equal. Therefore ALL citizens should be given the same rights.
Let's start with marriage rights (over 1000+). These rights are administered by the STATE. Any two unrelated people of age should be able to marry, per the Constitution. That's why ignorant bigots who want to ban same-gender marriages would have to AMEND the Constitution to support their hatreds.
Once marriage rights are given equally to all citizens, adoption rights become the same, and the question becomes moot.
Of course all US citizens should have the same adoption rights.
EDIT - to "Bl3" - straight parents turn out LGBT kids, and straight kids every day. So do LGBT parents. This has nothing to do with a child's inborn sexual orientation, which is not "sick" whether they are LGBT or straight.
Bigotry and hatred is what is "sick."

only 16 states are trying to pass a ban on gay adoption, and only two currently have one. So no most states have a ban gay adoption. As long as the child get a loving home the sexuality of the parents is irrelevant.

Yes, they should be allowed to adopt. Gay people can offer the same amount of love and support as straight people. Obviously, these kids' straight parents couldn't offer what they needed to thrive, and why should any child be denied a loving home? Straight parents raise gay kids every day, gay parents raise straight kids everyday. Your orientation doesn't make your kids' orientation. It is not that kids have gay parents that cause problems for them, it is the ignorance and hatred of others directed at them for it that causes the majority of them, if you ask children raised by them.

In my opinion I think it is discrimmination. The government should give gay people the same protection and rights under the law that people from religious groups or ethnic minorities already receive.
When it comes to children, why shouldn't they be placed in a loving home? There are so many unwanted children living in foster care and to deny any child a chance to have loving parents is what is wrong.

I think it's so last Tuesday. Get over it already.
Gay people can be just as wholesome as straight people, our sexuality doesn't establish our morals. There's screwed up straight people and screwed up gay people too. Maybe we should work on having valid ways of doing psychological analysis on individuals, instead of focusing on sexual orientation as a reason to not allow people to adopt.
Being gay is just a part of a person, it doesn't define their character in the least. This is a poor measure of a person's worth.

I think it's stupid to deny a child a loving home. They would have to go through the same background checks as straight people, so what is the difference? The child doesn't care as long as they are loved, have a home and emotional support.

Gay people can make fantastic parents. They tend to be better-educated, more artistically inclined, and more aesthetic than straight people anyhow!
And no, the kids don't turn out "sick". What a terrible thing to say.

"Most" states do NOT ban gay adoption.
Homosexuals are as capable of parenting as any other person.
