Native Americans fought for both the North and South and in fact the last Confederate Army to surrender was Native American with a Native American General.

April 9, 1865 Appomattox Courthouse; Lee and Grant

April 26, 1865 Bennett Place; Johnson and Sherman

May 9, 1865 Thomas’ Legion; Waynesville, NC

May 10, 1865 Irwinville, Georgia; Jefferson Davis was captured

June 23, 1865 Fort Towson, Oklahoma; Stand Watie surrenders.

Too little too late and something we are still paying for today.

God Bless You and Our Southern People.

Most did not. In the region known as the "Old South", some did. What few non-Natives realize is that not only did some tribes condone slavery, some of them actually owned black slaves. When the Confederacy was getting its stuff together at the very beginning, they told the local Indians they'd be treated much better when the Confederacy defeated the Union than the United States had ever treated them. And although they had reasonable doubt, some decided to go along. The mention of Stand Watie is accurate. He commanded the Cherokee Brigade, made up almost exclusively of Indians, and was indeed the last Confederate general to surrender. I'm a Civil War re-enactor. While my group was set up in Gettysburg a couple years back - we set up camp on the lawn in front of the wax museum - I had the privilege of meeting General Watie's great-grandson - who is a present-day surgeon. I've also met Colonel Ely Parker's great-great grandson, who portrays his illustrious ancestor as a fellow Civil War re-enactor. Col. Parker was General Grant's personal secretary, and was a Seneca Indian.

Yes, see sources

The Union had an "Indian Brigade" and the south many of the Indians from the "Indian Territory"

Many Native Americans who first served in the South soon left for the North. Complicated. Most all in the southern states as in Florida who wanted to fight made attempts to get to Union lines.

Mostly they were refugges.

They did on occasions fight with great distinction.

The other aspect is that in the west, Kansas and north and into Colorado, the Dakota's, the US Army fought Native Americans during the entire war. Minnesota had a major "Indian War" in 1862.

So, they did to a degree fight, but mostly were not willing to devote much to the South (it is where their homelands were, and well they were in the west on reservations).

Good question.

No. There is no way that the South could overcome the industrial might of the North - even with assistance from the Indian Nations. It would have taken all the Tribes and another front toward the Great Lakes to even threaten the North.

The five civilized tribes did join the Southern war effort. However most Native Americans decided to stay out. This wouldn't have mattered though because they couldn't fend off American troops when they were fighting for their own lands.

ur not giving enough parameters (cuz i dont know them)

u gotta state the total amount of troops from the north is.....

vs the amount of the troops in the south was.....

then you need to categorize their troops' skill levels.....the equipment......their strategists abilities

THEN you can go ahead and ask ur question.....how many native tribes r u talkin about? From where r they coming from? R they fighting inside along with the South's army or just riding along side....guerrila tactics? And r the natives fighting for money or is there a cause? Because what they r fighting for greatly affects their morale

i hope u will add more details for i am a student of Zhuge Liang! The greatest strategist of allllllllllllll time.
