Oxygenated blood gets to your brain by way of the carotid arteries. When you tie a rope around your neck, you "pinch" these off so blood flow is minimal. When your brain does not have enough oxygen (among other things), you pass out.

Because it puts pressure on the choratid arteries and other major arteries and veins which slows or stops the blood flow to the brain.
So don't put a rope around your neck!

Aside from cutting off your way of breathing? It also stops bloodflow to the brain which can cause you to pass out. There are major arteries in your neck which bring the blood to your brain...you kind of need oxygen for your brain to function...

Cut of air supply to lungs which leads to reduced oxygen in blood supply which means less good stuff for your head. Pass out to conserve vital functions, (but obviously only for so long).
