I have a BMW E30 320i. On the rocker cover there is a hose that clamps on to the top of it. It's about an inch thick, but i cant really see what the other end attaches to. Can anyone tell me what this hose is called and what it does?

Thanks!

I believe it is the breather pipe. Al engines have a pcv valve and a breather pipe. It connects to the air intake before the throttle body, usually in the air cleaner.

Not going to bet on this because it's a BMW but it sounds like the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) hose, this is part of your smog system and should go to the base of your carb. or to a direct vacuum source.

this is your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) hose. The other end will connect to a vaccum port. It assures the crankcase ventilates properly to avoid building pressure in the crankcase causing internal engine damage.

It's a breather pipe.

It's function is to recycle blow by gases back into the engine via the air intake.

sounds like your breather hose and it should connect up under or on the side of the air filter box.

There are 2 regularly occurring varieties... lady and male. Threads on the male are on the outdoors of the "coupling"... threads on the female are on the interior. make certain you have one in all each and every on the two ingredient of your hose.

Breather pipe/tube. Goes to intake air filter housing.

PCV is smaller and goes to the intake manifold.
