Depends on what you're looking for. 14k will be stronger than 18k, but 18k will be more valuable. 18k will also have a slightly more yellow color to it. If it is a piece to be worn on a daily basis, I would opt for 14k simply because of the durability factor.

18K gold has a higher percentage of gold and is more expensive but it is softer than 14K so it scratches more easily.

18K has a richer look and nice luster so it is ideal for earrings and necklaces. It is good for rings but you should avoid rough work (ex. working out w/ weights, scrubbing pots & pans, etc.)
