Managing partner owns part of the company (restaurant).
A G.M. does not own part of the company directly, but he probably has a lot of company stock and stock options (so he inderectly owns part of the company).
A managing partner may or may not know all the workings of the company, but he should. He probably has a "knack" for management.
A G.M. is a usually a professionally business manager.

A managing partner is likely to have a stake in the business and therefore will be receiving dividends, stocks, shares etc while a general manager does not receive these things and cannot bear claim to the fact that he is a partner in the business

Managing partner, means a partner in the concern, & has management control.
General manager is just that, an employee who manages the concern,he may or maynot have workers who are answerable to him eg.cooks, waiters etc.
