I'm 36 wks, 4 days, and as of my doctor's appointment this morning I've gained 47.8 lbs. Ugh. I was really small when I got pregnant, and everyone keeps saying I'll lose it all as soon as she's born. Just out of curiousity, how much did you gain during your pregnancy and how much did you lose before you left the hospital?

I know I've gained "too much." But it's not like I did it on purpose. I have to make myself eat because I'm not really hungry most days, and I can't exercise really because the doctor is starting to worry about my blood pressure. I was underweight to begin with, so I have to keep telling myself that about 10 of those lbs should have been there beforehand!

My first pregnancy I gained about 32 lbs and lost 18 during delivery... considering I was underweight when I got pregnant about 100 lbs and 5'2 I was about the prefect weight when I left the hospital.. I stabalized at about 115 lbs after about 6 weeks..
With my second I gained about 35 lbs. lost 20 during delivery and the other 15 in three or four weeks after.. I stabalized at about 115-120 after about 6 weeks..
With my third (and last) I gained 75 lbs. and had some major health issues preeclympsia, etc. I lost about 40 lbs with delivery and water weight loss before leaving the hospital.. Then had some other major health issues in the weeks to follow (2 surgeries to correct problems) I stabalized at about 135 lbs at about 8 weeks and haven't been able to lose anymore since.. 5'2 135 lbs mid thirtys isn't too bad.. Besides hubby likes a little meat on my bones... He has always said I was a bit too thin at 120 lbs..
While you won't lose all the weight you gain during delivery you should lose about 1/3 to 1/2 if you have gained only what you should... A bit less if you gined more than you should...
Remember it took you 9 months to gain the weight during pregnancy don't be surprised if it takes the same amount of time to lose it...
For me I found it more difficult to lose with each pregnancy... probably due partially to age and partially to changes in body chemistry..

I gained 42 lbs. I had a lot of water weight though. I lost about 20 give or take when I left the hospital, let me mention that I was there for 4 days. Don't worry about it, it has taken you 9 months to gain this weight, if will come off if not then you just might have to work at it a little. Good luck and God bless. Congrats on the baby!

During my pregnancy, I think I gained about 45-50 lbs. I was so worried because it was a lot compare to many women. But then my doctor told me that I was underweight, so I had to gain the extra pounds. I didn't loose much right after pregnancy, but after about 2 weeks I lost 10-15 lbs. I had a c-section so I couldn't exercise until my body totally heal. Now I'm working on getting my old shape back, if that's ever possible.
The thing is, it all depends on how your diet was. If you comsume too much calories, it won't be easy to loose those pounds.

It sounds like you are still a pretty small person. I got up to 211 with my daughter (170 pre pregnancy) and i lost about 10 pounds at the hospital. I never got back down. I started a serious diet, and lost 30 pounds, and then got pregnant again. So I am not going to gain weight this time, and will start working hard again aftewards.
I had a friend who was down to her pre pregnancy weight of 115 pounds two months after she had her baby.
My grandma told me a story once that when she had her first child she felt so skinny afterwards, and when she looked in the mirror, she still looked huge : )
Hope all this info helps.

I lost 15 lbs. in the hospital. Then, I lost another 10 before my son was three weeks. I gained 50 total, and have lost 75 in 10 months by breastfeeding. Good luck!

I was 115 lbs. pre-prenancy and delivered at 155 lbs. mid-July 2007. I lost 25 lbs by mid-August and I am still working on the last 15 lbs. I did nurse the first couple of months, so I am unsure if that accounts for the rapid weight loss.

With my son I weighed 115, pre-pregnancy, and 160 the day i went to the hospital, so i gained 45 lbs total. right after i had him and my epidural wore off , I went for a walk in the hall and I weighed myself on a hospital scale and I weighed 145, so I lost 15 lbs right after I had him. the remaining 30lbs was gone within 2 months!!!!

The day after 4 pounds
The week after another 2 pounds
By 4 months I'd lost the 30 pounds that I had put on.

Total weight loss when you have the baby is just about double the weight of the baby. It appears you are gaining too much. Try cutting back on calories but eat healthy and do exercise. Good luck.
