All good Americans put the well-being of the country, and the Constitution and the law above the President.
This President does NOT, but puts himself and his cronies above the country, morality, the Constitution, and the law.
No good American respects our current president.
(Hey, at least I'm not saying a quarter of the population are terrorists who hate America.)

I think respecting the office of the Presidency would suffice; respecting the individual would be a matter of personal choice.
An American, is best serving his country when he/she questions Government and Authority at All Times. America is about the People, and not the powers that be. This is what makes this nation so great.
To be American means to stand up and be heard, never silent and never going along with the program "just because" your neighbors are; vote out of party for candidates who's views you favor; ask those hard lined questions to your congressman and by all means Do Not be an Idiot Flag waiver who accuses those of us whom, speak aloud as being "Non American" as they alone do not set the standards of whom is American, but the public policy of free speech does.

I prefer the term "USA Citizen" as we are not the only game going on in the Americas.
You can respect the Office of Presidency and even respect a person without agreeing with everything He or She says or does.
I think that what most of the USA's citizens do. I would also hope that most, even all, of its citizens would look at the issues and vote in the elections. That would be good too.
We have the freedom ... even to not use the freedom, but to keep the freedom, it's a good idea to participate in voting.

I respect the PresidenCY, but not the current President.
The President swears an oath to uphold the Constitution. This president has treated it like a quaint suggestion. He does not deserve my respect.

The only think you need to worry about when it comes to being a good American is whether or not you’re a good person.
Besides one of Americans most important philosophers/writers
Waldo F. Emerson said it best "Whosoever be a man (women), must be a nonconformist".

Do you have to respect the position, yes, the person, no.
I support President Bush.
I know what he is trying to do is right for the world.
To be a good American, you need to support your country. Fly and American flag.

NO. Why should you have to respect him any more then any other citizen. The President should respect you. You are his employer and it should be an honour for him to SERVE YOU... The only one you should have respect for is your parents regardless your age.

Could you please elaborate? This looks like a catch 22 to whomever tries to answer, but, I will answer this in a way that will reflect the apropriate way to dissent to the President.
1- Respect the office.
2- Criticize the (wo)man doing the job.
3- Be truthful in doing so.
Keep those three things in mind, and you cannot go wrong.

Absolutely not, and especially the current liar in the white house.
I have utter contempt of him he should be a gunner on one of those unarmored humvees that still haven't been replaced after 4 years. But he has money to give the rich!
He needs to go into detox!
He is exactly what the pope was referring to!
He drew a link between the lifestyle of people in the developed world and the dire conditions of people in Africa.
STRIPPED NAKED
"We see how our lifestyle, the history that involved us, has stripped them naked and continues to strip them naked," he writes.
The German Pope, who has condemned the effects of colonialism before, said rich countries had also hurt poor countries spiritually by belittling or trying to wipe out their own cultural and spiritual traditions.
"Instead of giving them God, the God close to us in Christ, and welcoming in their traditions all that is precious and great ... we have brought them the cynicism of a world without God, where only power and profit count...,"
