Lol I think its because when you leave the parking lot you're looking at the store and when you leave the store you're walking from a different perspective and so your memory doesnt hold a visual picture from that angle. Also, it happens when you dont consciously think about it and remember your surrondings and just run to the store.

When you park your car, step out and look past your car, as if your walking out of the store. That way youll have a mental picture of what it looks like where you are. Dont look at the store, look paast the car~! It helps me!

because ur in such a hurry to get a parking spot and get to where u are going u dont put much thought into where u really parked.
