Ft Myers to St Augustine will take you about 4.5 to 5 hours.
I do it several times a year.
The best way is to avoid I-4
I usually take 207 into Palatka and pick up 19 from there. Then to 314, through the ONF to 40. From there to I-75 and into Ft. Myers. Get off 75 north of Ft. Myers [Tucker's Grade] go west to 41, then south to Ft. Myers.
This may look like a longer route, but trust me, it is without question, the quickest and most scenic. As I said, I do it all the time.
