for those of you telling me i have cancer, i would just like to tell you that i am well aware of the dangers of tanning, so you telling me that i'm gonna get cancers isn't doing anything but irritating me.

a better way to let someone know that they are doing something dangerous would to inform them of the consequences, so that they can make an informed decision.

thank you to everyone who is actually answering my question.

It could be dehydration or you may simply be overheated.

You might also be experiencing a headache for reasons unrelated to tanning.

In any case, a tall glass of cold water with a few Advil would cover all of these bases. Hope you feel better!

rehydrate, rehydrate, rehydrate.
your headache is most likely caused by lack of hydration. you probably don't realize, but you lose a LOT of water in the tanning beds.
the other thing is that you may have gone a little too long for your first time, but you'll know that in a couple of hours when you're either tan or burnt!

Edit:
Sorry you're catching flak from all these people. It's your choice to tan in a bed if you want and I am sure you know the possible side effects. If you want to try another avenue, you may consider at home tanning cremes. a lot of them work really well these days and I have found that if you combine the tanning lotion with some baby oil, it glides onto the skin smoothly and evenly so there are no streaks. Most tanning places also offer 'Mystic Tan' which is basically professionally applied fake tanner. I have known some girls who got streaks from the mystic tan and some who loved it. Good luck with whatever you choose ... and don't forget to take a bottle of water with you next time you tan!

Dehydration. You need to drink a lot of water before, and after. That is a lot of heat to be under. Also, make sure you have a good meal in you before you do it. Not right before but don't go hungry, you could faint. Now, the most important fact? Don't tan. Not only are you permanently damaging your skin (every tan is damage), you are setting yourself up for skin problems in the futre. When you're 29 you don't want to have the skin of a 40 year old do you? Lazers, creams, and injections can only do so much. But more importantly, you are playing a risky little game called "I hope I don't get Cancer". From personal experience cancer is not fun, any type. Please just fake it, don't bake it.

Dang lay off the poor girl, if she wants to lay in a tanning bed, then let her lay in a tanning bed. You can get cancer from the tanning bed just as you can get cancer from the sun outside! In fact, now-a-days you can get cancer from pretty much anything! Your headache is coming from dehydration. Be sure to bring a bottle of water with you when you go to the tanning bed and drink it. Remember you are already dehydrated even before you get thristy. Hope this helps!

I also go tanning and sometimes the headache can be caused from the light in the tanning booths. Just makes sure you wear eye protection, and if you did this time i would check into wearing more, some peoples eyes are very sensitive and eye strain can cause headaches!
