Start w/the simplest of possible causes...Check your battery terminals/cables.Can be loose, dirty, cracked. Next check your plugs, distributor connections etc. often its quite simple.OR it can be....Your timing, starter, flywheel, etc. etc. Best bet is have it checked, preferably left overnight , but mention the simple things to the mechanic, or he'll charge you an arm and a leg in labor. you gotta lead him to the possible cause, as if you know what you're talking about, otherwise, all, or most 'mechanics' are rip-off kings.

With the car being that old.I can bet it being a weak starter motor. It turns over hard at first and then turns over very fast and starts the car.Get battery checked as well. But you can count on replacing the starter.

Thanks for the information. Did you also have a question?
If you're wondering "What should I do?" I'd suggest telling your mechanic "It's hard to start, can you look at it?"
