How can you tell when a flower has "outgrown" its pot and needs to be put in a larger one. Also, how exactly do you do it?

If you look in the drain holes and can see several roots, it' time to change. Take the plant out of the old pot carefully...if there are roots making it difficult, don't rip them out, but be gentle. When the plant is out, squeeze the dirt/roots, kinda like kneading them, to loosen things up, place in new pot and cover with dirt. This is stressful for plants, so make sure the root bulb gets alot of water the first time. Do not put the new dirt any higher then where the bottom leafs stick out of the main stem.

When the roots start to grow out the bottom is a good time to repot. Get a pot one or two sizes bigger than the previous one if you want the plant to grow larger. Or get two pots one size smaller if you are going to divide the plant in half to make two smaller ones. Be sure to use high quality sterile potting soil so you don't get weeds. And water the plant regulary after repotting (but not over watering or it will fail).

I recently repotted a Peace Lily...I used store bought soil...the plant just looked to big for the pot I had it in.The roots were wrapping around each other so it's a good thing I did.Massage the roots to loosen them up before you put them in their "new home".My cousin helped me do mine.I wish I had a greener thumb...lol♥

NOT THAT EASY TO ANSWER. MANY PLANTS 'LIKE' TO BE CROWDED IN POT, SOME DONT. JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE ROOTS COMING OUT BOTTOM 'DOES NOT' INDICATE IT NEEDS TO BE POTTED. IE- SPIDERPLANTS WILL NOT PRODUCE SUFFICIENT OFF SHOOTS 'BABIES' UNLESS CROWDED IN POT, EASTER CACTUS WILL PRODUCE ONLY IN CROWDED POT (YES THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS) FIND OUT WHAT YOU HAVE, RESEARCH ON INTERNET OR CALL YOUR LOCAL PLANT STORE YOU CAN TRUST.
