I was born in the early 1980s. Slavery was abolished in the 1800s. I have never seen a slave much less owned one, so why should i feel guilty. I don't feel guilty and neither should any whit american, because there is nobody alive today that owned a slave. In fact there is not one black american alive today that was a slave. Why should i feel guilty. Some black people say that they won't forget it, but they didnt even experience it. If it makes a man feel better to dwell on it, then go ahead but don't expect me to feel guilty for something i didn't do. No disrespect or anything but is it a form of genetic insanity or is this passed on by parents? And what gives some people the nerve to think i should feel guilty?

I agree. I am black and in no wise should you feel guilty at all. A man reaps what he sows. If white men treated black slaves with cruelty at that time, then those men will have to answer for what they did, not their descendants. Ezekiel 18 makes it clear that a son can not be punished for the sins of his father, if he does not walk in his footsteps. I feel stuff like this is a result of envy and of the devil to work disunity among people. I grew up poor but God made me successful through His teaching. So, I can not blame any man for where I am today if my life is miserable. I make make own choices and decide my fate.

Not a question of feeling guilty, but you should recognize and respect the fact just the same.
Also, the segregation and discrimination was in your century, you were born after the Civil Rights act was passed, but do you think there is not still a good deal of racial profiling going on? Police are a lot more likely to shoot at a suspicious looking black man than at a suspicious looking white man. It's not over yet.

If you cannot forget your sad past, there is little chance that you will be free from self pity and your progress will be seriously hampered. This is the message for all blacks who cannot forget slavery.

No need for any whites to feel guilty after all slavery was abolished because they wished it to end.

To me, it is not a question of feeling guilty. This is something that MUST remain in our brains, to make certain it never happens, again. Just as young Germans, alive today, cannot feel a genuine guilt due to the Holocaust. We must remember the bad things, the horrible things, the history of this planet, in order to make CERTAIN that these things NEVER happen, again. If ever this planet should even 'lean' the direction of these atrocities toward the human race, again..........we should remember, learn from the past, and make certain it does not happen, again.

I agree with you. Yes I don't feel it was a good thing white people did, but I personally and every white now didn't do anything. I don't agree with it either. Like you said blacks now didn't experience it. They can feel mad about it, but they have no right to make us feel bad, when we didn't do anything.

Why should I feel guilty that statistics say blacks commit more crime in America than any other race. I've never committed a crime?

You don't have to feel guilty, but you should show respect to others whose families have been affected by slavery.
