Seriously.

Whether you believe she was supposed to/allowed to go to Syria, she went. We all need to accept that. Did you want her, in addition to going over there in the first place, to insult her hosts as a visiting foreign diplomat by committing an obscene and disrespectful act by displaying her hair in public? Laura Bush did it too, and I'm not criticizing her for it. Good for Laura, recognizing that you don't get anywhere in a foreign country by insulting its citizens. I'd be angry if she DIDN'T wear one. So criticize Pelosi for going, criticize her for what she said to the leaders of these nations... but can we leave the head scarf thing alone, please, knowing that the First Lady understood it was necessary to do, and the Speaker is no different?

I concur, just as it is rude to show the bottom of your feet in Arab society, so too is it considered rude for women to let their hair swing. Agree or disagree, it is important not to be self-centered guests.

You bring up a very good point, their is one thing many western civilization don't know about the head scarves. Those who have more knowledge should understand that it is worn for many reasons. the head scarf is not only in Islam, also in Judaism, and Christianity. When I made a trip to Jerusalem most Jewish women had one on, it is just a religious custom that is held onto, the only difference is that in Islam your must where it. Religions wear it for certain reasons. Women wear it as a sign of respect and tendency to prevent sexual feelings men may think about them. I am Muslim myself and I recently did observations at a local synagogue, and before I could enter I was asked to where the kippa, so by doing this I showed respect to the other religions faith just as Nancy Pelosi has done so. Let's just leave her alone and take into fact that real important meaning behind the trip.

It's a deal, but she needed a fashion designer to help her. That had to be the ugliest scarf I have ever seen. She looked like someone's senile old Aunt Mabel. I mean a little fashion sense could go a long way to helping her appear as the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America, rather than some old washerwoman.

She is not a diplomat. She is a Senator from California. Her continuing sabotage of President Bush and this Country what is outrageous. Meeting with a government that financially supports our enemy's is Treasonous. The head scarf is a mute point.

Those who critcized her for that obviously have no understanding of international diplomacy and are only showing their ignorance.

Also, several republican congress pope visiting Syria a few day before Pelosi and another one the day after Pelosi.

Nancy Pelosi only wore that head scarf in order to be "indiscriminate". She did it for no other cause than herself. Anyway, even if she did go, that doesn't mean she was a good person to go. There is nothing wrong with displaying your hair in public. It is not obscene and, if those people can't accept that Americans do that, then they can just get over it. That is how it is in America and we shouldn't change ourselves to fit their standards.

Until recently, women covered their heads in Catholic churches, too. It is a common (if archaic) sign of humility.

You'd think that the cons would be happy to see Pelosi act humbly.

It offends me every time I see a woman in a burkha, and head scarf in this country. Why don't they assimilate into this culture the way, Germans, Italians, Irish, etc. have. It isn't right for either woman to put on a head scarf to appease these muslim countries. especially if you are Christian. The head scarf is a sign of oppression in muslim countries, If nanzi is all for women's rights, why would she subject herself to this oppression? It's sickening to me. It still doesn;t change the fact that they are chrisians in a muslim country. head scarf are a muslim thing not christian.

It's so immature for anyone to criticize someone for wearing a headscarf - so what? What's the bid deal anyway? It's so petty and childish to make such criticisms. Stick to the issues, people!
