so by your standards if you don't own something you can't say 'my'. so technically if you rent an apartment you can't say "my place" or "my aparment" you have to say "my landlord's aparment". and you can't say "my friend" either unless you own him.

also you should be more specific when you write
you said there is no such thing as "my team" in your first line but what if you own the team, then you can say "my team" as you also state right after it, which contridicts what you just said in your first line, because if somone does own a team, there is a such thing

youre an idiot. do you really have that small of an understanding of the English language to assume people ACTUALLY mean they have some sort of ownership in a team??? when someone says MY TEAM, they mean the team the root for, you moron!

MY TEAM is the USC TROJANS!! i love MY TEAM!!!! i cant wait to see MY TEAM in action this year. can i call the seats i sit in MY SEATS since im a season ticket holder, even though i dont actually own the seats????

again YOURE AN IDIOT!!!

What a waste of five points to even ask this question! People in general say "my" with everything. Stores, teams, sons, other people, etc. If a song someone likes comes on the radio, they'll probably say "Oh turn that up that's my song!" They're not implying that they own the copyrights to that sound recording. If you have someone you enjoy hanging out with in a platonic way, you say "he/she is my friend". Do you actually OWN the person? Everything isn't so literal. Get a grip.

Hey, the Chiefs and Royals are my teams because when they step on the field they are announced as "Your Kansas City Chiefs" and "Your Kansas City Royals". I may not have a financial stake in the ownership, but I certainly have an emotional stake.

Where do you think the franchises ge all the money to overpay their players with?? The fans attending games and purchasing overpriced memorabilia.

While it is a tiny percentage overall, any fan who has spent money on a team has helped pay for the players, stadium, team airplane, etc.
I liken it to a political party. We donate money and we vote, but once they are in office, we have little to no control over what they will do.
I will always say "my team".....Go Steelers!!!!!!!!!!!!

If youre a fan of the team then you can say "my team". Let's face it. Without the fans to generate revenue there would be no team. Therefore, fans fund the teams, thus they can say "my team".

they just say it cuz theyre all part of the team. everyone is as important as other players. some say it cuz theyre a team leader. like peyton manning. everyone respects him and will listen to him. no one says "my team" like they own the team, they say to set an example and be a team player. they want their teammates to give it 110 percent all the time. they never use it as a term as if they own the team. and defintly listen to the answer before mine. i agree 100%.

Why do u even care. Its obvious when we say "my team" we dont mean we own it, we mean its our favorite team, u just minus the word favorite. You must live somewhere that does have not a team. Sorry for you! As for the rest of us, everyone claim your squad....The Saints is MY TEAM!!!!!!!!

Why don't the teams complain about it then? You probably live in an area that doesn't have a team, otherwise you'd understand the dynamic.
