your generalisation is wrong. the reason why your read more about football players is due to football's popularity. anything involving a well-known club gets magnified.

Some would say it's to do with the short term nature of the career, usually finished at 35, so they're having fun while they can. I disagree. It because they can. Drop any 20-25 year old lad in a situation where they're being paid stupid money to play a game they love, detach them from the real world a little, and you're going to see some excessive behaviour. Imagine the people you see in nightclubs in any town in any part of England: this is the background the players are coming from, for the most part. It is embarrassing for the supporters of the clubs whose players act like this, but sadly a lot of players don't seem to care.

The reason soccer players act in such embarrassing manner is because when they get all that money for playing football it short circuits there brain and there brain make them act like 15 year old let loose in a shop where they sell every thing that is on the wish list of a 15 year old, With the added bonus of alcohol. Some times I think that they are BRAIN-DEAD.
Besides I think that they are over paid, and that it's about the money NOT the club that they play for.

It's as though they live in their own world.
In what other profession would you see people go into a sexual ecstasy climbing on top of each other when they had just succeded in achieving something they were paid to do, that is score a goal.
Can you imagine bus drivers or lawyers behaving in this way? They would surely be advised to have psychiatric help.
I can remember when the scoring of a goal was an occasion for no more than a hand shake or a pat on the back not a pile of bodies on the floor stroking and kissing.

I have often wondered this myself, and also why suddenly has the game of football changed to soccer, in my opinion they are two entirely different games although they are played the same with the same set of rules, the ball is different, the boots are different and in a lot of cases the strip is different. The old game of football was played with a leather case ball and leather boots. I would like to see some of the players today head a leather case ball, probably knock them out cold.. they dance around like a load of idiots just because they get a ball in a net. I've no idea as to why they act this way and I feel it reflects upon those who watch the game in the way they behave.

Because many of them are not well educated and then come into money quite quickly. So they have no idea of hard work. This means they don't experience 'real life'. However there re some top flight players like Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard who are a good role model. Then you get your snarling foul mouthed yobs like Wayne Rooney, who are given the excuse constantly by the media that they are young and need time. Compare him to someone like Lionel Messi of Barcelona. A superb talent and modest young man. I think it is just the English mentality.

Because footballers generally come from a working class background and their family's have not had a lot of spare money. We take someone from this background, we let them train for a couple of hours (some days) and they take the rest of the time off, we then call them "roll models" and the press and the public idolise them, we then pay them more in week than they, or their families have ever seen. Is it any wonder that many cannot handle it.
Many other sports (ie tennis) are usually played by more well off families because of the costs of playing (clubs, kit etc) and a fair bit of latent snobbery. Look at some of the American players who have ready and easy access to tennis. Some of their behaviour in the past is similar to that of our footballers.

May be you didn`t get all the facts right.I played soccer all my life and i was always respectful, and never acted in an embarassing way
Brawls happen in any sport, and in soccer most of the time are the fans that start it.
I live in America and i like all sports, but sometimes i don`t understand how footbal players(they are always in court)can be considered classy.Basketball players have made so much brawl, that if they would give me all the money from the fines,i would be rich by now.Hockey...I don`t need to say nothing. If you follow this sport you will understand.Baseball...
A lot of egos, nasty masking tobacoo, spitting, grabbing the private parts like Michael jackson, fix their cap like ten times in a minute, blah, blah ,blah

Because they are part of a team which basically can be construed as a gang. Therefore many groups of males act loutish when in large groups with their friends its just that 99% of these groups don't earn 100'000k a week! Many other sports don't have such large teams e.g Snooker, Golf, F1, Boxing, Wrestling, Tennis etc etc.

I think it is a cultural thing specific to British footballers. They same thing doesn't tend to happen with French, Italian, Spanish etc players. Well not in the same numbers. I think it has a lot to do with the drinking culture in the UK combined with low moral standards.
Don't agree it is just footballers. Cricketers, Rugby players and boxers have also been in the press recently for loutish behaviour. Footballers just have a much higher profile.

because they're spoilt little brats who are paid waaaaay too much money in comparison to what they actually do , also their behaviour must also be blamed on the hero-worship they recieved.
If you look back 30 or so years you will notice that this behaviour was a lot less common, particularly because the money was a lot less and also because football itself was not just a business where the point of it all was to make as much money as possible, the players, managers etc actually cared about their fans and not about which television channel/sports brand companies are offering the most for their services...
