you need to solve for u.
for simplicity, pretend that you're just adding numbers, after all they're of the same type (both with u and nothing else)
-2 + 8 = 6
then throw in back the u, to get 6u
6u = 75

u = 75/6
you can't add only the numbers if you're adding numbers of different forms, such as 2x + 7y, but you can if they're of the same type, like 2x + 7x, and then put the variable back.

6u=75 -2u+8u=6u
6u/6=75/6
u=12 3/6=12 1/2

-2u+8u=75

-2+8= 6

6u=75

75 Divided by 6= 12.5

Therefore u=12.5

( 6(12.5)=75 )
