I would pay attention to what they are saying and try to do a better job at it. I would also consider how long the previous person was doing the job versus how long you have been doing the job. Sometimes it takes a while to learn some things. I would think this would be a normal reaction initially because they are used to things being done a certain way, but should fade with time. Another thing that may help is to directly ask them how I can improve myself, do a better job, etc. Sometimes just asking this puts them on your side. You could also try directly approaching them and saying you appreciate feedback on how you are doing and can improve, but that comparing you to someone else is not as helpful. Good luck.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago. I would always smile and go on about my job responsibilities until the day he told me "Your doing a great job and all the patients like you but so and so had professionalism. He kept constantly saying the same thing, until one day I gave in my 2 weeks resignation notice. He was so surprised that he offered me a raise. I refused the raise because it was not about the money it was that I did not feel comfortable with him no longer. He had broken my spirit. Where I am now I am highly praised and appreciated. And I am happy.
