It is about being alcohol and drug free. I remember skin heads in the late 80's & 90's used the term most. It describes a clean lifestyle.

It isn't just music. It's living a life free from chemicals that influence the perceptions/body. Alcohol, tobacco, any illegal drugs, and depending on the person, caffeine, sometimes even including aspirin and other such medicine. Occasionally there are particular groups that are extremely vocal against those who do not choose to live the "straight-edge" lifestyle.

This has absolutely nothing to do with music or religion. It is about a life style. It is abstaining from drugs, alcohol, AND casual sex. A lot of people like to leave the last one out of their. Some people take the no drugs to mean no illegal drugs or cigarettes. Other take it to mean no drugs of any kind: pain killer, caffeine, or anything like that.

because of fact issues like god and faith are linked with gentle. So atheism must be linked with the different, i assume. i do no longer think of that's a stereotype atheists created inevitably. it variety of feels to instead be created by people who misunderstood what atheism is interior the 1st place. generally, I argue that stereotypes emerge from some variety of reality; in spite of the fact that subsequently, i do no longer think of so, because of fact "atheism" is definitely one of those appreciably misunderstood term, one that is oftentimes linked with no longer a loss of a perception yet a rebellious or Satanic perception.

Never heard of that phase before. But when I hear it, i would believe they would live a straight forward life. Not being spontanious and living a routine life. I dont know if music would be involved in that phase. just my opinion

It's a lifestyle that involves not drinking alcohol, not smoking and not doing drugs. You do nothing to alter your mental state, much like Muslims I think, only for punks. Link below.

This has to do with drugs. Someone who is a "straightedge" doesn't use any drugs. So that means no smoking (cigarettes, weed, etc), no alcohol, and any other type of drugs. That is a "straight edge" for ya.

A "StaightEdge" lifestyle is one where they have chosen to do no drugs, drink no alcohol, don't curse or swear, and save sex for marriage. They're hardcore "straight" in the sense that they do not partake in any kind of vises at all. (Supposedly)
What gets me is that supposedly according to the Bible to tattoo ones body is also a "sin" but I see these kind tattooed and pierced all the time!
I don't get it. But it's their choice.

Straight edge means you use no drugs or alcohol. It has nothing to do with music, but it involves the type of lifestyle you lead. Someone who is "straight edge" consumes absolutely no, zero, zilch, zip drugs/alcohol.
