I have a Mickey Mantle Autographed baseball. It basically sits in a box in my closet. It has been there for a good 10 to 12 years. I looked at it the other day and I noticed that it is turning a little yellow. Why is this and can it be prevented?

It is in a plastic cube and I don't touch it, but it has been touched in the past. It has literally been sitting in my closet for 10 to 12 years in the plastic cube in a cardboard box. I have Rickey Henderson and Ken Griffey Jr. Autographed Balls in plastic cubes too. They don't have nearly as much discoloring.

You should have put it in a cube or cover it with some kind of cloth. It can still be worth close to $1000 or more.

I've been a collector for years. It's my understanding that the ball is exposed to acidity on your fingers, light isn't good either as well as air. I've heard that if you cover the ball with either clear fingernail polish or clear varnish will preserve your collectable. The less you handle it, the better it is. The best thing to do is go to a collector's show and ask the venders. They should know for sure.

Assuming the two are signed by ability of the comparable guy or woman, i might say the bat. they are truly worth greater as an merchandise by ability of themselves, they postpone greater ideal, and their greater uncommon. additionally with the bat, in case you have been seeking to sell it sooner or later interior the destiny, you will possibly basically might desire to manage one transaction. Andrews good judgment sounds sturdy yet people won't pay $a hundred for a ball except it truly is a corridor of attractiveness variety participant. No group has 25 of those.

Have it hermetically sealed inside a glass cube that's filled with argon gas. That will preserve it and prevent further discoloration.

The cowhide is oxidizing. If you want to slow the yellowing, you should put the ball in a hermetically sealed container.
