Gasoline is a lot more expensive.
Food can be expensive, but outside of downtown/touristy areas, you can find cheap, good food. For instance, near my grandma's house in Ingleside a cheap sushi place just opened up and it is great.

Housing is expensive. Everything is standard.
But then that is a California "standard", like San Francisco is roughly the same price as San Diego. However, California as a whole is more expensive than other states.
Starbucks would cost you about $5 for a mixed drink (Latte, Frappuccino, Caramal Macchiatto, etc) and Subway is about $4 for a 6 inch sub. Pretty standard.

Starbucks is the same price as everywhere else, it's expensive, regardless of where it is. Subway subs are good value, I am not aware they cost more in SF than anywhere else. Tourism can be expensive, but I guess that is the nature of tourism.

There probably is an increase in price on consumer products and food . If the average population can afford something at a price then the company will charge it.

Well, even if they're not, I'm sure the extra sales tax makes it seem that way.
