As an indirect answer to your question, I did buy my computer online. What I found out is that I cannot get online computer assistance through the manufacturer.
My suggestion is,purchase from the manufacturer, even if you pay a few more dollars, the online assistance and troubleshooting may very well be worth it.

It depends on what kind of computer your looking for? If your looking at top of the line try Alienware or falcon northwest, or soon to be launched commodoregaming.com. If your looking for low end, try Dell, HP or Compaq.
