I spent years thinking this was some kind of cancer symptom something freaky like that....and then just last week I was doing research on inverted nipples and found this http://www.007b.com/nipple_gallery.php
How come no-one ever teaches us girls about this in sex-ex??? Or why doesn't the gynecologist mention something to us??? Or am I the only one out there who was freaked out by it...anybody still freaked out?

actually I'm in Canada.... So nothing to do with no sex ed...Canada is very informative on such matters...just not this particular fact. I just thought I'd raise the question if anybody else thinks some-one should have taken thee time to mention to us what they were....I now know what they are for but only because I did my own research....just a personal opinion to take away from stress .... there are too many weird things that happen to us girls during puberty that are not going to be mentioned in everyday conversation...but easily could be in sex-ed and I think should be mentioned by our gynos....

I checked out that site, I have them. A lot of them. I think the part about nursing is very true. I had NO problems nursing my daughter. In fact I made too much milk. I always wondered what they were. So your site helped. I thank you.

Bumps on the areola are normal. But an inverted nipple is something entirely different, and yes, it can indicate a malignancy.

Your question seem to indicate that you are in a country in which you don't really get sex ed, simply because some people are afraid that it promotes sexual acitivity. In act, that lack of education promotes experimentation, hgih rates of sexualy activity in teenagers, high rates of pregnancies, of abortions, or STI's, of very early marriages and of subsequent divorces, etc. That means that it's up to you to educate yourself. You've gone to at least one site that helps with that. I'm adding links to some others, each of which is sex ed for adults, NOT porn.

BTW, a GYN's responsibility is a woman's reproductive tract, and breasts aren't a part of that.

This question was posted a few times by you on different days.. why??? Are you proud of it or just trying to gain extra question points???

Your add on?? so now you are excusing this as to you are trying to inform people of a very common thing??? Come on.. I guess I should talk about penis normalities too?? Guys are tired of hearing females talk about their bodies and every normal function as if is something special.. You girls are the only ones who care to hear about your women crap... Not everything revolves around a womans body, birth, cramps and her monthly period..

Bumps on the areola/nipple area - are usually nothing more than milk ducts (where milk drains out), a little misplaced from the nipple.

Why were you not taught this in school? It is insignificant to the body until/unless you are actually lactating/nursing a baby.

Not freaked no, I sometimes wish I didn't have them but figure they aren't going to go away.

It's just the sort of thing we don't get told about unless we raise it as a problem.
I guess they have problems with how to tell us....."Oh, by the way, you have lumpy breasts".....it's a tough gig.
