I don't know about nowadays with the extra security measures and stuff, but in 1993 it took 4 hours to fly from California to Missouri, cause I was on that plane.

What kind of plane?

A Cessna 150 would take 12 hours of flight time plus 3 stops for refueling (30 minutes to descend, land, refuel, hit the bathroom, take off and return to cruise altitude) for a total of 13.5 hours or so.

On the other hand an SR-71 would make the same trip in 36 minutes, plus take-off, ascent, descent, and landing. Call it 45 minutes.

Midwest airlines' Boeing 717 flies nonstop MCI to LAX , scheduled for 3 hours, 29 minutes.

Choose your aircraft.

St. Louis to Los Angeles takes from 3 to 3 1/2 hours, depending on air traffic and the jet stream.

Depends on the plane. 31/2 hours for a commercial jet. A couple days for a small single engine plane.

About 4 hours, flying.

Total time, though?
3 hours waiting and getting through security.
2 hours waiting on the tarmac, while a mechanic scratches his head while staring at the engine.
2 minutes for him to replace the scotch tape that holds the engine on.
2 hours flying.
6 hours waiting for another plane in Denver.
2 hours flying
1 hour circling LAX, SFO, (or whatever) waiting to land.
30 minutes landing, and "taxiing". (taxiing is a euphemism for ,"pilots getting the smell of beer off their breath." )
1 hour waiting for your luggage.

= A bit less than 20 hours.

Bon Voyage!

Obviously it depends on how fast it's flying.

And on how far apart Missouri and California are at the time... :)
