we can't tell her why you need one, why do you need one? To be able to say "Hey look at me I have a laPtop and don't really require it but like paying twice the price of a desktop so I can think I look cool"? or do you have a legit need for the portability benefits of it? Unless your a student and require it in your classes your not going to convince her. Ask yourself why you need and it and if you feel that you really don't then shoot for something else like an xbox360 or PS3.

Can you take on a summer job and offer to pay for part of the laptop? If you want it so badly, maybe your parents would help you purchase one.

Realize that the cost of the laptop will generally be higher than the equivalent desktop system (as far as performance goes). You will need to purchase licenses for any software (MS Office, anti-virus (unless using one of the free options), games, etc...) that you intend to use between systems.

Reasons for a laptop:
- Required for school work
- Projects that would require a lot of time in the library
