Turbochargers and superchargers compress air before it enters the combustion chamber. With any gas, compressing it will increase the temperature. This reduces volume and in some cases could cause preignition. An inter-cooler brings the air temp. down before it is introduced into the engine. In some cases, as much as 100degrees F.
