Since inmates and staff wear uniforms, I'm assuming you mean "What are the dress codes when visiting a prison?"

Each prison has it's own version of the dress code, but in general:
No shorts or skirts above the knee
No tank tops/strapless tops
No "flip flops" or open heel type shoes
No clothing that in any way resembles the uniforms of the inmates or staff
No underwire bras (they set off the metal detector)
No wigs or hats unless approved in writing prior to the visit by prison administration.

Generally, an acceptable outfit would be "Business Casual"... Slacks or below the knee skirt, polo shirt or button down and dark or brightly coloured shoes.

For more information about visiting rules, including dress codes and what you can bring with you when visiting, see the forum for your state at http://www.prisontalk.com

It varies between different prisons and depends also on high security verses minimum security. But the prisons where we live they wear matching pants and shirts and tennis shoes. The pants and shirts are kind of like scrubs.

I ASSUME YOU ARE ASKING THIS QUESTION AS AN UPCOMING VISITOR AND NOT AN INMATE? EACH FACILITY HAS THEIR OWN DRESS CODES FOR THAT AND SOME ARE MORE LENIENT THAN OTHERS. BUT USUALLY, THERE ARE NO SHORTS. NO SKIRTS ABOVE THE KNEE. NO SLEEVELESS OR STRAPLESS TOPS. NO SEE-THROUGH CLOTHING. NO PURSES, WALLETS, MONEY, ETC. IS ALLOWED INTO THE VISITATION ROOM. THINGS LIKE THAT. YOU WOULD NEED TO CONTACT THE SPECIFIC FACILITY TO FIND OUT EXACTLY----BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T PASS "INSPECTION", YOU WON'T GO IN.

BUT IF YOU'RE ASKING ABOUT THE CODE FOR INMATES THEMSELVES, YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT.........THEY HAVE EVERYTHING ALREADY PICKED OUT AND ACCESSORIZED FOR YOU.

Orange jumpsuits witha serial number on it, no shoe laces. Everyone wears the same thing, it is not a dress code, it is a uniform.
